On 28 August 2020, SP Transmission Plc submitted an application under section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 for Scottish Ministers’ consent to install the proposed Glenlee to Tongland tower line 132kV overhead electric line, to be located within the planning authority area of Dumfries and Galloway Council. The proposed development is subject to environmental impact assessment.

The Electricity Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 allows for representations to be made to Scottish Ministers. The closing date for consultation responses is 13th February 2021

On the 14th April Dumfries and Galloway Council objected to SPEN's proposals. Councillors said that they felt it had not been proven that the proposals would not have a significant detrimental impact on regional scenic areas.
The application will now go to a public enquiry.
To date the number of objections received by the Energy Consents Unit are as follows:
Total number of objections to date are 909 with the demographic breakdown being:
564 from residents in Dumfries and Galloway
177 from the rest of Scotland
154 from the UK (excluding Scotland)
14 from overseas
There has not been a single representation in favour of the proposal.
